Company seeks to build solar panels on town parking garage

A Vermont solar energy development company has announced plans to build solar panels on a Brattleboro parking garage.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports Green Lantern Solar said in a letter of intent approved by the town Select Board Tuesday it is looking to run a microgrid system, a storage battery and a means to use the power gathered from the parking garage.

The letter of intent prevents the town from selling or leasing the space until December 2019, and it gives the town a chance to buy discounted net-metering credits.

Green Lantern says it will conduct a feasibility study for the project.

Town Manager Peter Elwell says Green Lantern will shoulder all costs of the study and permitting. He says he doesn’t expect to lose any parking spaces.
